About Percival

Percival (first name and surname; no pseudonym) published Text ur Tomheten (Text from the Void) in 1966 after a long stay in Tangier, and since then more than 20 books in Swedish and a few in English - novels, essays, drama and poetry.

At the end of the eighties he spent two winters on Cyprus near the birthplace of Aphrodite and the ancient theatre of Curium and was inspired by this stage to translate his own choreodramatic text The Golden Bough from Swedish into English - in view of a future performance. At that time he was also working on his latest important Swedish novels The Red Knight and his Dreamed Worlds (1992) and The New Man's History - the Sign of Lazarus (1995), an initiation into European medieval chivalric times, our present civilization and a possible global future.

Percival´s biography cannot be anything but one with his work in progress, where his theatrical production is the backbone. He has published more than ten plays and staged some of his dramatic work, texts by Antonin Artaud and a play by Samuel Beckett, whom he knew personally, corresponded with, and translated into Swedish. In 1993 he organized a much appreciated Beckett festival in Stockholm and on 4 September 1996 a theatrical homage to the centenary of the birth of Antonin Artaud, whom he has written about (and translated) e.g. in his book Artaud Beckett Blake (1992).
